Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art

MOCCA’s mandate is to exhibit, research, collect, and promote innovative art by Canadian and international artists whose works engage and address challenging issues and themes relevant to our times.

This relocation required the complete alteration of an existing clearstory garage into an art gallery. Our scope of work included specialty lighting, mechanical system and new handicapped washrooms. Architectural features included 20’ high walls throughout, which were finished to an art gallery standard, fire-rated assemblies at the ceiling and walls as well as a glazed entrance feature.

Flat Iron had conversations with the art curator to understand their mission and overall intent as to how the space would be used. The result was altered specifications and application procedure for the fire proofing to ensure proper adhesion while maintaining required performance ratings. Lighting specifications were also altered to ensure ultimate lighting coverage while avoiding damage to installations.
